Author Richard Heinberg’s The Party’s Over was a wake-up call in 2003, predicting the end of cheap oil (years before $4/gallon gas) and making a case for alternative energy. Despite the title, he’s not all gloom and doom. In fact, he has a brilliant vision for revitalizing rural areas.

"Go green, Fairfield!" Those were Mike Love's parting words at a press conference on Friday, August 14, during which Mayor Ed Malloy announced that Love will be annointed "Energy Czar for the Day"  at the upcoming Beach Boys concert in Fairfield, Iowa, on Labor Day, Sept. 7. Tickets go on sale Monday, July 27, for the Labor Day Beach Boys concert in Fairfield. It's a benefit concert for the David Lynch Foundation and the Sondheim Center.
