Word of the Year - Hypermiling

For the second year in a row, the New Oxford American Dictionary chooses a green word as its word of the year.

 

The word of the year for 2007 was “locavore.”

All of this goes to show what we already knew: green has gone mainstream, and it's there to stay.

Here’s the scoop on the word soon to become a part of our daily lexicons:

A new study by a University of Iowa economics professor suggests that Iowa counties with a higher concentration of people who are part of the so-called "creative class" have stronger prospects for economic growth.

The study, by professor John Solow in the Tippie College of Business, ranks all of Iowa's 99 counties in a Creativity Index based on the one developed by economist Richard Florida.

The Iowa caucuses started the presidential campaign and  Iowa and neighboring Brain-Belt states Minnesota and Missouri may decide the whole thing, according to CNN's John King. He says this presidential election is so close that, similar to 2000 and 2004, a few key states may tip the scales one way or the other.
