Jazz Prodigy Keelan Dimick Performs June 22 by Claudia Petrick

From KRUU Program Director James Moore: Mark Monday, June 22rd, at 8 pm on your calendar. Jazz phenom Keelan Dimick will be back in Fairfield to tickle the ivories as only he can for one night only at the Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts.

If you missed his last Sondheim performance a year ago, this is your chance to enjoy an intimate evening of jazz standards and improvisations by an award-winning, deft-fingered, soul-connected, gifted young pianist who grew up here in Fairfield and has just graduated from high school.

Don't let his relatively small number of years on earth fool you, though—Keelan has got the touch. The talented pianist won performance awards two years in a row at the Lionell Hampton Jazz Festival. This fall he'll be heading to New York City to attend the Manhattan School of Music, where he was offered one of only three piano positions handed out annually at the prestigious school. In addition to the Manhattan School of Music, Keelan was also offered full four-year scholarships to the Berklee College of Music in Boston and the University of Michigan.

The concert will be at the Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts on Monday, June 22, at 8 pm. Enjoy the elegance of the Sondheim Center's grand piano and celebrate one of Fairfield's shining sons. Tickets are $10 for students, $15 for adults, available at the door. Keelan is generously donating the proceeds from the concert, for the third year in a row, to Fairfield's listener-supported, grassroots open source community radio station KRUU-FM, streaming at www.kruufm.com.
