Author Richard Heinberg’s The Party’s Over was a wake-up call in 2003, predicting the end of cheap oil (years before $4/gallon gas) and making a case for alternative energy. Despite the title, he’s not all gloom and doom. In fact, he has a brilliant vision for revitalizing rural areas.

"Go green, Fairfield!" Those were Mike Love's parting words at a press conference on Friday, August 14, during which Mayor Ed Malloy announced that Love will be annointed "Energy Czar for the Day"  at the upcoming Beach Boys concert in Fairfield, Iowa, on Labor Day, Sept. 7. Quilt Raffle for ARC of Jefferson County by Burt Chojnowski Comment (0)
The Arc of Jefferson County is launching raffle ticket sales for a queen-sized quilt made locally and donated to The Arc, to raise funds for camp for local and area individuals who are intellectually or otherwise developmentally disabled. The quilt design is “Log Cabin – Star,” machine stitched and quilted.

Tickets are $1 each or six for $5, sold through the last day of the County Fair at The Arc
