Radim Schreiber Wins Grand Prize

Fairfield, Iowa, Photographer Wins 1st Rainforest Alliance Photo Contest

Radim Schreiber of Fairfield, Iowa, won the grand prize in the Rainforest Alliance's first Picture Sustainability Contest.

Fujifilm announced the winner of the Rainforest Alliance’s first annual Picture Sustainability Photo Contest, conceived to help raise awareness of global sustainability and conservation issues. Radim Schreiber of Fairfield, Iowa, was selected out of over 5,000 submissions as the grand prize winner for his color image of a butterfly.

Radim won a seven-day trip to the Galapagos Islands, a trip to New York City to attend the Rainforest Alliance annual gala, and a Fujifilm FinePix S100FS professional-level digital camera.

“Winning the Picture Sustainability Photo Contest is a milestone in my life,” says Radim, “and inspires me to continue pursuing my passion for photographing nature. It warms my heart to know that my pictures touch people and can help to support our endangered environment.”

Art Wolfe selected the winning photos based on overall composition, creativity, artistic merit and relevance to the Rainforest Alliance mission.

The Rainforest Alliance works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices, and consumer behavior.

By 2010, Fujifilm intends to reduce global energy consumption at its large manufacturing facilities by 10 percent from its 1999 numbers, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 20 percent from its 1990 numbers.
