Peter Pan is Flying to FairfieldWay Off Broadway Presents Cathy Rigby's Production of Peter Pan in Novemberby Tracy ChipmanOut of the mist, the re-created Way Off Broadway Musical Theatre, Inc. (WOB), emerges serving up a truly magical experience for all of Southeast Iowa to enjoy. Any fly on the wall will tell you that conversations about flying abound in Fairfield. These days the flying buzz is all about Way Off Broadway’s production of Peter Pan, which will be flying to Fairfield in November. Peter Pan is a musical adaptation of Sir J. M. Barrie’s timeless novel and play. It was first produced as a musical in 1950, with music and lyrics by Leonard Bernstein. Fabulous talent Mary Martin (1954), Sandy Duncan (1979), and Cathy Rigby (1990) have all played their role as Peter, spanning a half-century of delight. WOB will be producing Cathy Rigby’s version of Peter Pan, which toured the U.S. for eight years putting a new spin on this classic production. The advanced flying rig used by gymnast Rigby was specially designed for the show, and the same rigging specialists will be installing the entire rig in the Sondheim Center for WOB’s production as well as the original rebuilt set. Peter Pan is WOB’s most ambitious project to date, and this fully mounted, high-tech show featuring a national, regional, and local cast will only be in Fairfield for two weekends, November 6-16, at the Sondheim Center. Grab your wand, your wings, and let your imagination be swept away on this fantastical journey with Barrie’s famous characters: Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Wendy, Tinkerbell, and a host of lost boys, pirates, and Indians. Please get your tickets early to insure your participation in this charming production. For tickets, call the Sondheim Center Box Office at 472-2787 or www.iowaTIX.com.
