June 4 Release Concert Benefits Local Youth Collective

**BBP’s new CD, Bedrooms & Basements, features up-and-coming local musicians Taylor Ross, Josie Overmyer, Nate Headrick, Andy Toepel, and Wade Koch.**.

The nonprofit Bonnell Building Project (BBP) is hosting a red-carpet CD release benefit extravaganza on Saturday, June 4, 2011, at the Stephen Sondheim Center, featuring many of the performers from BBP’s new Appleseed Studios CD. Musicians featured on the CD include Darla Murphy, Gemma Cohen, Miranda Mallard, Adrien Daller, Phil Rabalais, Dom Rabalais, Josie Overmyer, Joey Delre, Joseph Mayfield, Nate Headrick, Julia Ross, Taylor Ross, David Murphy, Theo Shear, Wade Koch, David Hurlin, and more.

Titled The Beauty Shop Presents: Bedrooms & Basements (a reference to the various recording venues used), the CD helped train young recording engineers while showcasing Fairfield’s emerging artists and raising money for the Beauty Shop. The Beauty Shop is both a physical space and a community collective geared toward supporting young people’s creative inspirations. The physical space is located at 60 W. Burlington Ave., and regularly hosts performances by local and touring musicians and popular art shows featuring the work of young people. It’s entirely managed by a team of young people.

BBP is a unique experiment in fostering empowered, passion-driven learning and action by the young people in our community. In addition to the CD, BBP has helped community members launch dozens of projects, businesses, and organizations, including a performance venue, an electronics lab, a recording studio, a café, a bagel business, and an artists collective. Music and art have been a major focus, centered around the Beauty Shop and Appleseed Studios, a professional digital recording studio that provides opportunities for young people to experience and learn all sides of the music business.
