The Fairfield March ArtWalk takes place this weekend and I am excited to see three new venues at Flying Leap Gallery (in the old Emerald Gallery space and the Beauty Shop. Life Solutions Behavioral Health will showcase paintings and ceramics from local favorite Elaine Duncan. Both the Beauty Shop and Life Solutions are located off the alley on the south side of the Fairfield Square.
There is are at least six live music and/or dance offerings over the weekend starting with the Afro-grass Live-Looping of Arthur Lee Land at Cafe Paradiso on Friday night, March 5. The live music capital of music kicks into high gear on Saturday with the following performances:
Skunk River Medicine Show at Revelations at 8 p.m featuring songs from their upcoming CD.
Binghi-Land, World Music at 8 p.m. at Cafe Paradiso. Binghimon and Arthur Lee Land perform along with Jonnie Cohen and David Hurlin.
Symphonik 2010, Trance Dance Music from 6:30 p.m. 'til past midnight at the Fairfield Arts and Convention Center.
Roycroft Chamber Musicians – perform Beethoven and Korngold at the Sondheim Center at 8:00 p.m.
First Saturday Dance Party at Morningstar Studios – led by West Coast Swing Teacher Dave Townsend, it will feature latin, disco, swing, rock and blues.
Congratulations to Fairfield's Cafe Paradiso. They were named the 2010 Iowa Source Best Coffee House. Lot's of finalists and local favorites included Revelations, Top of the Rock, Noodle House and India Cafe.
Speaking of great regional restaurants, I went to Augusta in Oxford for Mardi Gras. And, I am glad I did. No reservations were required. Their New Orleans-trained chef put out a Fat Tuesday buffet that was delicious and sumptuous. I wouldn't have known about if it had received been recommended from the Source's readers.
