Freeform Art Gallery at 58 N. Second St. is showing a new exhibition of photographs by Hal Masover, with an opening reception during First Fridays night on September 5. The show continues through September 27.
“My love affair with photography began in 1972 on the island of Majorca, when I first held a borrowed Pentax camera in my hands,” says Masover. “That moment ignited a fascination that has shaped my life’s work—a deep curiosity about the interplay between light, landscape, and the human experience.”

“I am endlessly fascinated by three things: the complexity and beauty of human nature, the infinite mystery of our night sky, and the breathtaking landscapes that our Earth offers us. Through my lens, I seek to capture not just what we see, but what we feel when we stand before something truly beautiful—whether it’s the Milky Way stretching across a dark sky, golden light painting a mountain range, or the quiet majesty of an untouched wilderness.
“Photography, for me, is about more than technical precision or perfect composition. It’s about connection—to place, to moment, to the wonder that surrounds us every day. My camera is simply the tool that allows me to share these moments of awe with others, hoping that through these images, viewers might discover their own sense of wonder about the beautiful world we’re privileged to call home.”
Freeform Gallery is located at 508 N. 2nd Street in the Tetra Building. Gallery hours are Tuesday and Thursday 6:30–9 p.m., and Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
