It’s National Library Card Sign-Up Month at the Fairfield Public Library! A library card opens up a world of possibilities, from books and the countless real and fantastical worlds within their pages, to reference materials, internet and databases, tech support, job resources, movie rentals and streaming services, story times, book clubs, free classes and workshops, and equipment rentals. Library access is empowering, providing constant opportunities to learn and connect.
Libraries are invaluable community resources for everyone, providing access to information, inspiration, and interconnection, with programs and events for all ages. Whether it’s researching a DIY project, finding your new favorite read, getting help with homework, providing ideas for arts and crafts, or learning a new skill, it all starts with a library card.
Getting a library card is free, and involves a short application process. Patrons who get a library card or renew their existing card in September will receive coupons for free or discounted services provided by local businesses. Patrons can also replace their cards for free this month, and the library is offering new card designs that Library Director Alecs Schmidt-Mickunas says highlight its continued efforts to develop in a sustainable fashion.
In addition, there will be a number of special events in September, including free films, a book art workshop (exploring new ways to recycle discarded books), and a book sale through September 19th. This particular sale features a large selection of nonfiction, including books dedicated to spirituality, self-help, and Eastern religion. Rare and collectible books will be available for sale, too.
Get or renew your library card this September and open the door to endless opportunities. For more information, visit Fairfield.lib.ia.us.
