High Praise for Joseph at the Sondheim

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat opened on Friday eve. We had our highest opening night attendance number to date, which was such a thrill. The show was fabulous, high energy, fast paced, and I found myself humming/singing the songs throughout the weekend. Randy Jones, the cowboy from the Village People, has a brilliant cameo as the Pharaoh, and his “mock” Elvis is hilarious as is the Village People spoof woven in. Most amusing. Again I was blown away by the talent of the interns performing…they had 2 weeks to learn this show, not only the songs but a massive amount of dance moves. Choreographer Adam Cates, who came out from NYC to direct the choreography, did a fine job. The dance pieces were tight and solid. I brought a good friend from WI (who used to live in NYC) to the Sunday matinee performance. She’s still trying to work out how this quality of musical theater could be here, right here in Fairfield. She was completely taken by surprise, even though I tried to tell her…some things you just have to experience yourself.

As the buzz about Joseph travels hither and yon, we are gearing up for a massive Disco & Karaoke Dance Party this Wednesday, 7/16, 8-11pm. Randy Jones will be the highlight, Fairfield’s KRUU FM “Speaking Freely” host Dennis Raimondi will be the Master of Ceremonies, and it will be a night to remember. Come on down and shake your bootie; dancing, karaoke, costume contest and more!
