The Musical of Musicals Fundraiser

Way Off Broadway, Musical Theatre, Inc. (WOB) is thrilled to bring professional quality musical theater back to Fairfield’s Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts for two upcoming fundraisers to help move WOB and the FACC move forward this spring.

For the first fundraiser Way Off Broadway is pleased to present a reprise of The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!) running for three shows at the Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts: March 27, 28 for two evening performances and a matinee on Sunday the 29th. The Musical of Musicals ( The Musical!) is a  hilarious spoof taking the same basic plot derived from the old vaudeville “You must pay the rent; I can’t pay the rent!” sketch, and presenting it five different ways, in the styles of five iconic American and British musical theater composer/lyricists.

The variations are: a Rodgers & Hammerstein Americana musical, set in Kansas in August, complete with a dream ballet; a Sondheim dark and brooding musical featuring the landlord as a tortured artistic genius who slashes the throats of his tenants and turns them into paper mache; a Jerry Herman production, full of feisty old broads and cocktail parties; an Andrew Lloyd Webber rock opera with themes borrowed from Puccini; and a Kander & Ebb cabaret, set in a speakeasy in Chicago.

This production of The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!) will be directed by WOB’s artistic director Randal K. West with Musical Direction by Justin Hill and will star Diana Upton-Hill, Ryan Gaffney, Margaret Clair and Jeff Carty. [ This production is not recommended for children under the age of 13.] This production contains some minor language and adult themes (in keeping with the tradition of early Musical Theatre) handled in a very funny fashion. It all adds up to a laugh-out-loud evening of Musical Theatre.

Ticket prices for adults are $25, Student Rush discount is $18.50 and groups of 10+ are $18.50 per ticket. Service fees have been included in the listed prices.

On Friday May 8th, WOB will present yet another exciting one night only event – The WOB FUN-Raiser at the Sondheim Center. This delightful affair will celebrate the rich variety of professional musical theatre productions Way Off Broadway has brought to the stage since founding the company. The WOB FUN- Raiser will include excerpts from past shows, a very special guest and will serve as the launch pad to announce the upcoming 2009 summer season.
