Columbus Circle, oil painting by John Schirmer

Freeform Gallery invites you to the opening reception for a show of oil paintings by Fairfield artist John Schirmer, titled Big Cities, Small Towns. The reception takes place on Friday, March 6, from 5:30-9:00 p.m. during Fairfield First Fridays. The exhibition begins Tuesday, March 3, and closes Saturday, March 28.

Award-winning artist John Schirmer has had a career in art for 40 years, specializing in wood block prints. He began his career hand-carving wooden signs for homes and businesses. He then moved on to become a professional carver for Baker Furniture, a well-known staple of the furniture industry. John also created a line of ceramic jewelry, which he sold wholesale all over the country, including for Disneyland. All the while, John had been creating oil paintings reflecting his love of color and design. The paintings in this exhibition are of urban landscapes inspired by his travels to large cities as well as modestly sized towns.

Freeform Gallery is located in the Tetra Building at 508 North 2nd Street in Fairfield. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday 2 p.m.–7 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m.–2 pm.
