FYPA Presents “Xanadu Jr”: A Roller Disco Mythology for Every Generation

Cast from FYPA’s Xanadu Jr.

Fairfield Youth Performing Arts (FYPA) proudly presents Xanadu Jr., a neon‑bright, roller‑skating burst of joy that reimagines the 1980 cult classic for audiences of all ages, July 30 through August 2nd at the FACC.

Set against the electric backdrop of Venice Beach, the story follows Sonny Malone, a young artist stuck in a creative rut—until the Greek Muses spring to life and send Clio (disguised as the roller‑skating Kira) to inspire him. Their spark ignites a dream to transform a forgotten theater into a dazzling roller disco. But inspiration comes with complications, and Kira’s jealous sisters stir up mythic mischief as Sonny and Kira race to bring their vision to life.

Early July rehearsal for Xanadu Jr.

Rather than retelling every twist, Xanadu Jr. invites audiences into a world where mythology meets 1980s pop, where creativity is a superpower, and where roller disco becomes a gateway to imagination.

FYPA’s young performers—representing seven Southeast Iowa school districts—deliver a production that is polished, vibrant, and theatrically rich. This is youth theater elevated: bold design, original art, next‑level choreography, and professional production values led by a team of seasoned musical theater veterans.

With iconic songs like “Magic,” “Evil Woman,” “All Over the World,” and “Xanadu,” the show bridges generations. Whether you lived the era, heard stories about it, or simply love its glittering absurdity, Xanadu Jr. winks, celebrates, and welcomes everyone into the fun.
A Tony‑nominated Broadway hit powered by the unmistakable sound of ELO and Olivia Newton‑John, Xanadu Jr. is more than a musical—it’s a synth‑shimmering, neon‑dipped celebration of creativity, inspiration, and the courage to dream big . . . in leg warmers.
