When the music stopped at the 2025 Symmetry Music and Arts Festival, the numbers told the story. Attendees from nearly every state, and even Europe, converged on the festival grounds outside Fairfield for a weekend of electronic music, immersive art, and community. The festival weekend swelled the local population by an estimated 20 percent. Hotels and Airbnbs across the area sold out, local restaurants and shops saw strong weekend sales, and the festival generated an estimated $1.2 million in direct local spending, supporting the equivalent of 18 local jobs. Symmetry was honored with the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce Tourism Award, recognizing what the event has done to put Fairfield on the map for music fans nationwide.
Now the team is preparing for its biggest year yet—ticket sales have nearly tripled from the festival’s 2024 debut. Symmetry returns Friday and Saturday, October 2 and 3, 2026, with a Thursday night pre-party kicking off three days full of music, movement, and immersive art.
“We are really excited about what we are bringing to Southeast Iowa and our Fairfield community,” says festival co-owner and Fairfield resident Tihomir Liptak, “both as an incredibly fun event and as an economic driver for the area. And we are already planning 2027 and beyond to make this a key yearly attraction for our community.”
While the music draws the crowds, the festival is just as much about everything happening between the stages. Symmetry is an immersive art experience woven through the woods, with more than 50 live painters and performers creating work in real time and an expanded slate of experiences around every corner. This year includes a 1990s arcade and Mario Kart tournament, fairy houses hidden through the trees, the Mad Teahouse, workshops and flow arts lessons, sound baths, and even a quiet reading space called the Library.
The vendor village returns bigger than ever, with more than 30 food and arts vendors, featuring favorites from Fairfield and across the country.
The music holds its own, too. This year’s lineup offers more than 100 artists across three custom-built stages, with world-class visual and audio production, including handcrafted sound systems by Lucid Journeys and JW Sound.
Headliner LSDREAM, one of the most celebrated names in bass music, leads a bill of nationally touring acts, label takeovers, and secret sets, curated by vibe.digital and festival director Neil Merchant. It’s the kind of booking that typically requires a trip to a big event in Denver or Chicago to see.
Community remains at the heart of it all. This year, 688 people have applied to be part of the festival, spanning flow dancers, performers, art installations, live painters, workshops, vendors, and volunteers. The open DJ competition alone drew over 160 submissions, with nine winners earning a slot on the lineup alongside some of their music heroes. Most attendees camp at the festival grounds for the full experience, then make their way into Fairfield to discover the town’s shops, restaurants, and hospitality along the way.
