The Chamber Singers of Southeast Iowa will present their spring concert, “Still We Rise!” on Saturday and Sunday, May 30 and 31, at 7:30 p.m. in the Golden Magnolia Sanctuary, 200 South Main Street in Fairfield.
These concerts mark the 35th anniversary of the founding of Chamber Singers in 1991. Across those years, the group, founded and directed by Elaine Reding, has performed over 700 choral works from 45 countries, bringing joy and a deep richness of musical experiences to the Fairfield community. Next January will also mark the 10th anniversary of the Chamber Singers’ Carnegie Hall premier of Kim André Arnesen’s Requiem to a sold-out audience.
This spring’s concert celebrates the joy of life—of nature’s beauty and the power of love and resilience in rising above change and challenges. Songs range from rousing African rhythms to lyrical Romantic polyphony, from deep reflections on love to exuberant praise of nature—seas, meadows, light, and music. In this way each song awakens a different aspect of that universal song of life that surrounds and fills us every day.
“This spring we wanted to uplift and nourish the community that has supported us so generously for 35 years,” said Elaine Reding, musical director of the Chamber Singers. “These songs of love and appreciation—for nature’s bounty, for the divine, and for each other—inspire our hearts with gratitude for the blessings we share together. We hope our musical offering this year will enrich everyone who comes to share it with us.”
