Amble through the warm and welcoming environment of the University of Iowa Thieves’ Market to see a mind-boggling array of art.
The University of Iowa Fine Arts Council proudly presents the 2014 Holiday Thieves’ Market and Annual Wine Tasting on December 6 and 7. This indoor art exhibition gathers over 100 artists and artisans together in one festive place to showcase a surprising amount of work. There’s everything from painting, jewelry, photography, and printmaking to glass, clay, metal, wood, fiber, mixed media, and more.
Free and open to the public, the show will be held on Saturday, December 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, December 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Iowa Memorial Union, located in downtown Iowa City.
Since the 1970s, the Holiday Thieves’ Market has served as a premier event in the Iowa City fine arts scene. Modeled after a Parisian arts market, the show gathers artists from throughout the Midwest and beyond to show their eclectic wares in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The wine tasting on December highlights some of Iowa’sown vineyards.
All patrons 21 years and older are invited to participate in the free Annual Wine Tasting from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 6. Now in its fourth year, the Wine Tasting features Odessa Vineyards and other area wine vendors showcasing a selection of their wines for patrons to sample and enjoy. The featured wine vendors vary from year to year, allowing guests to experience the wineries of Iowa and support some of the state’s well-kept secrets.
The University of Iowa Fine Arts Council is a self-supporting, non-profit student organization that takes great pride in supporting and promoting local and regional artists. The council organizes two major fine art exhibitions throughout the year—the Riverbank Art Fair in late April, and the Holiday Thieves’ Market in early December. Both shows support arts outreach within the community while supporting local artists in a unique, enjoyable, and welcoming atmosphere.
